Frequently asked questions. . . . .(and other stuff)
Q. Are the baskets made from sustainable material?
A. Yes. Our baskets are handwoven from palm fronds that have naturally fallen to the ground. They are dried in the sun before being handwoven into the gorgeous styles you see here.
Q. How strong are the baskets? Can I put all my eggs in one basket?
A. Of course! This is exactly what they are designed for. To give you an example, we fit our weekly fruit and veg (for 2 adults) easily into our Normandie Grande and this basket has been working hard for us for 2 years. If you are new to reducing your plastic bag use (and it is a hard habit to break!), start with one basket and see how you go. When you are used to taking it with you to the markets or shops, you will most likely find you will want to expand your collection! If you want to see baskets in action - check out our slideshow on the 'Inspiration' page or come down and see us at the Subiaco Farmers Market (dates announced on the 'Store' page).
Q. How do the peshtemal towels help the environment?
A. In many places around the world, there is a growing water shortage. As populations grow, housing development expands and the stress on groundwater supplies increases. Any way you reduce your water usage can help slow this groundwater depletion. If you replace your families bath/beach towels with pesthemals, you will be able to fit more in your washing machine than if you use the traditional terry bath towels. Reduce the number of washes you do this week!
Q. Do the baskets come from France?
A. Whilst they are French Style Market Baskets, they do not, in fact come from France. These baskets are woven in Morocco using traditional methods by local artisans.
Q. Am I able to clean my basket?
A. Yes. You can clean your basket by wiping the woven palm with a damp cloth and then leaving to dry. For the handles, as with all leather, it is best to use gentle leather cleaning products.
Q, I'm vegan. Is there a basket for me?
A. Of course. We appreciate that many folk are sensitive to animal products and have the Cote D'Azur basket available for this very reason. Handwoven in the same style as our traditional baskets, but with a sisal handle. Vegan friendly, dairy and sugar free!
Q. Do I have to pay for shipping if I order a basket online?
A. We appreciate that sometimes adding the cost of shipping to an item can put it slightly out of budget....so we offer you the option to 'Click and Collect' from the various events we attend in Perth. Select your baskets, select the event you wish to visit and collect your baskets from when you check out....it's that easy! We'll have your baskets waiting for you!
